For #WorldNatureConservationDay we’re celebrating the 3Fs—flora, fauna and FUNGA! The Big Puma Fungus--which is one of Re:wild's top 25 most wanted lost species--hasn’t been seen again since it was described in 1988. An expedition team led by the fungifoundation retraced mycologist Norberto Garrido’s (who described the species) steps, making sure to time their search with the exact day in May he saw the fungus in Chile’s Nahuelbuta Mountains in the 1980s. After a week of searching, and with some serendipitous help, the team found a mushroom that could be a candidate for the Big Puma Fungus.
