Today we celebrate an unsung hero in the fight against #climatechange - PEATLANDS! Peatlands are types of wetlands that play a crucial role in storing carbon for our planet. Get this—peatlands can store 30 times more carbon than rainforests, and store twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests combined. Given their composition, they can also retain large amounts of rainwater, which they gradually release into the watersheds. Our partners @RewildingChile and @Tompkins_Conservation have been working to create a new national park in Cape Froward, the southernmost tip of the Americas. This would protect more than 25,000 acres of peatlands, helping to safeguard this critical ecosystem in our global flight against climate change! Let's #rewild the world! 🟢 #WorldPeatlandsDay
