#EndangeredSpeciesDay is a day to reflect on the importance of biodiversity and ways we can best protect our most threatened species. Today, we’re highlighting #lostspecies wildlife that were once lost to science that have been rediscovered. A rediscovery can be the catalyst to help Critically Endangered species recover and set long-term conservation efforts in motion. 1- Jackson’s Climbing Salamander Rediscovered in 2017, the Jackson’s Climbing Salamander, aka the "golden wonder," was the first species from Re:wild's top 25 most wanted list to be found since its disappearance in 1975. Our partner FUNDAECO, worked with park guards at the Yal Unin Yul Witz Reserve in Guatemala to find it—hosting workshops and hanging posters with photos of the salamander. The publicity paid off because one guard spotted it during his lunch break!
