The Imbabura Provincial Court revoked the mining license for the controversial Llurimagua copper project in Intag’s biodiverse cloud forest. This decision is a significant victory for the people of Intag Valley—who for decades have been fighting to protect their community forest and freshwater from mining—and for the rights of nature. Ecuador was the first country in the world to enshrine the rights of nature in its constitution in 2008.
