For four years, Eric Holt had a routine. Work and run. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Or, more specifically, work, two cups of coffee, and run. Most often at midnight. Lap after lap or interval sprint after interval sprint on the Carmel or John Jay-Cross River high school track. Often, when it was lap work, he wouldn’t quit until after 10 miles. A solitary figure, kept company only by the shadow he cast and his thoughts. Holt could think about the why behind each footfall. About that long-held Olympic dream that took root in a young kid who loved to run and loved to compete. Holt will compete in the Olympic Trials, which begin Friday in Eugene, Oregon, with a shot at heading to Paris on the line. 🔗: See more of the story at our link in bio.
