The wait is over.
@michigancentraldetroit and Ford Motor Co. lifted the veil on the six-year restoration of Michigan Central Station ahead of its opening this week.
Today, we will be posting a series of before-and-afters with historic shots showing the miraculous work to bring the station back to its original 1913 grandeur.
Here is the waiting room, featuring chandeliers re-created from original station plans, the 29,000-tile Guastavino ceiling - each hand-cleaned and held in place by 8.7 miles of grout. The marble floors are almost entirely original. The missing ceiling medallions were re-created by making plaster molds of the few that survived.
