After more than 30 years of involvement at the Campanile, according to a campus Q&A, Jeff Davis will be retiring from his role as UC Berkeley’s carillonist at 80 years old and will no longer play the keys that create the Campanile’s iconic bell tunes. Since 2000, the Q&A notes that Davis has instructed more than 200 carillon students at Berkeley, many of whom have since performed in recitals around the world. Several of his students also hold professional positions at institutions such as UC Santa Barbara, the University of Michigan and in the town of Castelnaudary, France.
