Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 where Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas informing enslaved Black people in the Confederate South of their freedom. Though Juneteenth is a commemoration, it is also a day recognizing the fight for racial equity and justice is far from over.
