The word “dispassion” is often misinterpreted when it comes to spirituality. People like passion. It’s what gets us up in the morning. We wonder, “Why would I want to be dispassionate?”
But the real question is when not why. 🤔
We should be passionate when we work. Dispassionate when we meditate, and compassionate in relation to others.
So what exactly does dispassion mean in this context?
It means when you sit down to meditate, you drop everything for a few minutes and just let go. You could think to yourself, “Even if the whole world needs something from me, during these next few minutes, I wouldn’t care.” This brings deep rest and relaxation.
As your mind relaxes into this dispassion, deep rest, insight, and knowledge of your true nature dawns. 🧘
Then you get up and use these boons to fuel your passionate, compassionate work in the world.
This is the formula for progress on the spiritual path.
