Did you know that Seattle was the site of one of the most important Filipino American publications? 📰 The Filipino Forum was a bi-weekly newspaper published by Victorio Velasco from 1928 until 1969. During that time, it served as the main periodical that spread news among our communities about our large and continuously growing diaspora here in the Pacific Northwest 🌎 Its wide circulation made it possible for Filipinos in the US to stay on top of news from the homeland as well as current events and struggles in their new homes. Articles about the Philippine fight for independence, racial justice in the US, and labor unionism were common in its pages. Of course, lots of cultural humor and wit made its way into the pages of the Filipino Forum ❤️ As we reflect on its long run and its impact on Filipino immigrants, we’re moved by the power of our people to stay in community with each other, especially in a time and place that tried to isolate us from each other and from our homes. ...
