At the time I left Nigeria, there was an overarching fear of the government. I'd known people who'd lost their lives due to inadequate healthcare. University life was often marred by gang-related issues. In the midst of all this, my parents, driven by a deep desire for my success, made an incredible sacrifice. They pooled their resources and sent me to the United States when I was just 14. It was my first time leaving home, leaving my family behind.
