Last week Port Field Hockey officially opened their season with a game against North Shore on Tuesday and a scrimmage against Oyster Bay on Friday. • Unfortunately, the opening game was battled on grass, which proved to be a disadvantage for both Port and North Shore. The teams fought head to head, with frequent changes in possession and fast breaks. Senior Rachel Nissan had the only goal of the regular game. The score remained 1-1 through the fourth quarter, and the game moved into overtime. After no goals in a 7v7 overtime, the match depended on shootouts. Senior goalie Nikki Gonzales and Junior Goalie Emma Ortenzi both battled to defend the goal.
