This week Port Field Hockey unofficially opened their season with a scrimmage and a tournament. • Thursday, the team traveled to Manhasset to play a friendly scrimmage. The girls worked on passing and possession. Despite not defeating the previous Long Island Champs, Port learned from the experience and prepared for upcoming matches. • Saturday, the team participated in the Joan Grunebaum Tournament, a tribute to the late Great Neck Coach. The day was dedicated to cancer awareness and had a 9/11 tribute. Port Field Hockey played 5 7v7 games. In the first match, the girls faced a loss to Clarke following an injury to a key Port player. The team rallied into the second game, where they tied 1-1 with New Hyde Park.
