#OTD, 60 years ago, during the 1964 Freedom Summer Campaign, James Earl Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Henry Schwerner embarked on a mission to investigate a racially motivated church burning in Neshoba County, MS, which had been a site of a CORE Freedom School. Tragically, they were abducted, shot, and buried by Klansmen. Their bodies were discovered a little over a month later, hidden beneath tons of dirt at Old Jolly. Their deaths were not in vain. #DidYouKnow- As search parties looked for their bodies, they uncovered the harsh reality of many other black lives lost to violence and discrimination. It took over four decades for justice to be served, with the murderer convicted in 2005. To learn more about #FreedomSummer, visit the #LinkInBio.
