I went to the moon (😱)! And you can too 😉
I’m in The Futures exhibit at the smithsonianaib with meta testing out a new technology called Photogrammetry. That’s a mouthful but it’s essentially a way to create a 3D experience using 2D images.
And because of photogrammetry I was able to feel like I was STANDING on the moon. Like I was really there 😭🥹.
The moon buggy! The lunar lander! Craters! Lunar regolith! It all felt so real and it was created using 2D Apollo images!! I’m telling you, I literally had chills. I can’t believe technology can transport the mind in this way.
This same 2D ➡️3D technology is used to help map and record coral reef ecosystems and even Native American cave art. It’s a better way to have a precise understanding of our world and how it’s changing.
AND imagine how this could impact the FUTURE of learning. What if you could learn about Mars by walking on its surface rather than reading about it in a book? Or if you could learn about the work of Michelang...
