When I first started TV hosting, I would walk into a room, ready to prep a (male) scientific expert for our interview and instead he would direct his attention to our (male) crew. He would excitedly tell them about how his electric propulsion engine worked. I had 3 inch heels, 5 lbs of make-up and fake eyelashes. I suppose I didn't look like someone who was fresh off getting two Masters degrees from MIT and the only one in the room who had the background and passion to understand his technical explanation of his work. This happened many times in the first few years. Bias creeps in everywhere - with people (even analytical scientists!) but also with technology. If you only have a certain subset of the population building a product, then there will be use cases that you miss.
