Day dreaming about the days where I was looking at moon rocks. 🚀🌙
Biggest questions on this one:
Why so much security???
🔐Yes - this is a 9,000 lb door 😲. And it's also a clean room. They do this to protect the rocks from outside contaminants, from natural disasters...and from anyone who might want to steal them.
How many rocks?
⛰️The Apollo missions brought home 842 lbs of lunar rocks from 2,196 samples. 6 of these samples remain untouched today. The rest were broken down into 140,000 pieces.
🧑🏾🔬Where did the pieces go?
Some were given as gifts to other countries, but most are used for research. They're "borrowed" by researchers who conduct various experiments on them. Some...have been "lost" 😲
🧫Why keep some samples intact?
We don't know what the future holds! There may be better technology in the future that would allow us to do NEW science we'd never thought of before.
