“One of the reasons why I came out was I was in a leadership role at Miami, I was president of the GLBA. … My dad is a very smart guy, he said, ‘Listen, I know who you are, I didn’t raise you to lie.’ He basically opened the closet door and said, ‘Get out.’" Monifa Porter ’96 was involved with Miami’s GLBA, and as she neared graduation, sought a way to remain connected to the university.
