The 2023 Animal Emergency Incident Management Network - Australia New Zealand (AEIMN-ANZ) was held recently at the New South Wales Emergency Services Academy in Penrith.
It was a unique event with an inter-agency mix of veterinarians, emergency service providers, government agencies, non-profit animal organisations and training providers - all working with the shared vision of developing safer practices for animal emergency incident management in Australia and New Zealand.
Topics covered included;
- Responding to animals impacted by cyclones & earthquakes.
- The anatomy of a lifting operation incl. rescuing a rider trapped beneath a horse.
- Rescue of horses and cattle from rising flood waters.
The Trust was represented by well-known Otago equine veterinarian and Trustee Dr Peter Gillespie.
Peter was invited to speak on the safe transportation of injured horses, using race-day situations and veterinary-requested transport assistance as examples.
