NZ has taken a leap in best practice for equine welfare, with a horse ambulance now based in Taupō.
A purpose-built ambulance is on-site and available for an estimated 20,000 'horse days' held annually at Dunstan Fiber Fresh National Equestrian Centre Taupo.
This aligns with Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) competition regulations that recommend '... injured horses be safely transported to the nearest treatment centre by ambulance for further assessment.'
The experienced driver/operators work closely with NZEVA vets to provide a seamless service for our equine athletes.
So, thank you to Wallie and the team at NEC Taupō for raising the bar, and contributing to the horse ambulance service through a $1 per horse ground levy.
The welfare of the horse is paramount.
