Thanks to RACEFORM for highlighting in its latest issue the Trust's vital role in equine welfare. One horse that recently experienced the benefits of a horse ambulance is six-year-old Makfi mare, Vainglory. Owned and bred by Judge John Clapham, Vainglory suffered a mid-race injury back in November at Riccarton Park Racecourse, incurring a severed tendon after being galloped on. She was stabilised by on-course vet Alisa Corser, before being transported by horse ambulance to the Canterbury Equine Clinic. Matamata trainer Cody Cole remembers the day well. “It was the first time in my training career that a horse of mine didn’t return to the birdcage. I went around to see her with a couple of the track staff, and also rode with her in the ambulance,” says Cole. “The main tendon was completely severed.
