#MeetTheTeam
Laurence Hanrahan is our Canterbury horse ambulance driver/operator and responsible for covering the thoroughbred and harness race meetings in the region. Based in Ashburton, Laurence is a well-known, respected horseman who trains a boutique team of pacers from the Mid-Canterbury farm where he lives with his wife, Justine.
Laurence began his career as a trainer in 1988 and has amassed 1,100 starts with an average strike rate of .3223. His best season was in 2000 when he had 27 starts for 14 wins and five seconds – a stunning record.
After he works his horses in the morning, Laurence can be found meticulously maintaining the horse ambulance to ensure it’s ready to go for the regular meetings on the local thoroughbred and harness racing schedule.
Laurence has been busy this Summer, covering 24 meetings including the iconic West Coast circuit and much of Upper South Island from Oamaru, across to Kumara and up to Nelson and Blenheim.
