“I have no doubt that the horse ambulance gives a horse the best possibility of getting a good outcome,” says Cambridge trainer Robyn Rogers. Her valuable race mare Girl of Steel broke down with a serious tendon injury following a race in Matamata in December 2019. At the time the on-course vet was not optimistic for a good outcome. However, as the horse ambulance is able to be lowered to the ground, Girl of Steel could easily step in and was transferred to the tie-up stalls for assessment and treatment. Securely strapped up, Mystique (as she is known at home) was transported home to Kendayla Park where she has had 3 months of full rehab followed by restricted access on pasture and is now fully sound and tearing up the paddock. Mystique's future is as a broodmare, with valuable black type in her family, and Robyn is happy that she will have a nice life.
