Vainglory, happy in her retirement at the Coles’ farm in Te Kauwhata following a career-ending injury in November 2020. “The main tendon was completely severed. I couldn’t have imagined her trying to make it up a truck ramp, so we were very fortunate that the horse ambulance was there," said trainer Cody Cole. She spent 12 weeks at the Canterbury Equine Clinic, before she was eventually able to head back up north in January 2021. “It’s taken a long time to get to this stage, but she’s good now,” says Cole. “... able to canter around the paddock. She’s a lovely old mare and has a good pedigree.” The mare is now fitted with a special plate on her hoof that stabilises the affected leg.
