“Flight of Healing” is a 10-foot-tall stainless steel sculpture created by two local residents & survivors of the #1October mass shooting. The sculpture’s central tree trunk embodies strength and will serve as a connection to the Tree of Life in the Healing Garden. The butterflies represent healing and a guiding light, and in particular, the Monarch butterfly was chosen to symbolize a guardian angel. The new piece of public art is in the Storytelling Garden, which serves as a companion area to the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden. The artists, Sue Ann Cornwell and Alicia Mierke, have served on the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden Committee since inception, working to care for and tend the garden as volunteers.
