While NYC’s iconic Pride parade gets all the attention, it’s important to remember that the city is not only the birthplace of Pride, but also where many significant trailblazing queer liberation movements took place. If you and your crew are over the crowds and chaos (no shade!), go on your own Pride parade by visiting some of the spots on this list. Start with thestonewallinn, but don’t go during the parade if you want to realistically be able to step through the doors. This landmark is so much more than a bar. It’s where the 1969 Stonewall Riots took place, when queer activists fought back against discriminatory police raids over a six-night period in June 1969.
