Heart and Spirit. The Washington Spirit have only conceded two goals since the start of September — an unbelievable feat that they carried over into Sunday night as they defeated the NC Courage 1-0 at Audi Field. This team has tightened up the screws in the back, and Aubrey Bledsoe has been a brick wall in goal, frustrating opponents home and away. Up front, golden boot winner Ashley Hatch has been clinical, and on Sunday, she delivered once again. Just when everyone thought we’d head to PKs, Hatch pounced on a rebound inside the six and sent Audi Field into pandemonium. If anyone deserves to be in the semis against a formidable OL Reign, it’s the Washington Spirit. Two weeks ago, they snapped the Reign’s 10+ undefeated streak. Next Sunday, we’ll see who has the last laugh.
