This was needed. Challenges came calling from the first minute of play, and the USMNT was there to answer. The youngest ever USMNT squad in World Cup Qualifying, that is. Despite going down 1-0 early in the game, the team rallied its way back into the game in front of a roaring home crowd, earning a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in Columbus. The link-up play that you can only learn in Spain from Dest and Musah, Tim Weah’s persistence in attack, and Aaronson’s ability to annoy a defense for as long as he’s on the pitch, this game was a huge improvement from what we saw in Panama on Sunday. The Richards-Robinson partnership in the back is also one to look out for, and one you definitely don't want to see again if you're Bryan Ruiz. Six out of nine possible points in this qualifying window, and the USMNT now sits second in the standings, with Mexico at first just 3 points away. USMNT vs El Tri, and the stakes have rarely ever been higher. November 12th can’t come soon enough.
