The CMJ is extremely helpful in evaluating athletes for many reasons. We can look at how athletes are performing in specific phases of the jump such as: The unweighting, braking, propulsive, flight, and landing phases. â €

We are able to tell whether athletes are more elastic or on the stiffer side. In my opinion, the CMJ is helpful to not change an athlete much, but more so to sharpen the blade with what they have and maximizing the time in which they look to produce force. In this video alone, you can see each athlete utilizing the SSC and producing force a little bit differently. That’s the real piece of the puzzle. ⠀

It all starts with the athletes ability to effectively unweight. The more an athlete can unweight, the more potential for downward / braking momentum.
