Yesterday, attendees of The 66th Annual National Puppetry Festival joined the Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC) for a look at puppetry from the past through the lifelong career of Jim Henson.
After four years, this festival hosted by the puppeteers_of_america returned to the University of Maryland, College Park–the alma mater of Jim Henson. This year’s festival theme was “Generations,” celebrating iconic past, present, and future innovators.
We feel deeply honored to have welcomed Karen Falk, head archivist of the Jim Henson Company, and Heather Henson, Jim Henson’s youngest daughter, puppetry film historian, theatrical puppeteer, and serving on the Board of Directors for The Jim Henson Company and The Jim Henson Legacy, shown here posing with Grover. Visitors especially appreciated our special satellite exhibition, developed by Karen Falk, that explores Jim and Jane Henson’s formative years in Maryland.
