June 23 is National Typewriter Day, so it’s only fitting we share a typewriter from our collection and a remarkable staff member! Senior Reference Librarian Francis O’Neill has worked in the H. Furlong Baldwin Library at the Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC) for 43 years, on July 1. While many things have changed since Francis started in 1980, he continues to use a typewriter daily to create records for the Passano-O’Neill File, which includes approximately 66,000 index cards documenting historic structures in Maryland. These typewritten cards are an invaluable resource now digitized and accessible on our online catalog. Visit the H. Furlong Baldwin Library today and enjoy the old-timey click-clack of Francis typing away alongside millions of books, documents, and artifacts. #Maryland #History #Culture #MDHistory #Baltimore #Typewriter #Library #Librarian (Credit: Hammond Typewriter Model No. 1, The Hammond Typewriter Company, c. 1884.
