On November 6, 2012, Marylanders voted for the passage of Question 6, a bill that allowed for nuptials between same-sex couples. Upon learning of the passing of the Civil Marriage Protection Act, Ryan Wilson and his partner Shehan Welihindha decided to travel to Wilson’s home state of Maryland to marry on New Year’s Day, the day the bill went into effect.
