See it before it is gone - "Woman of Two Worlds: Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte and Her Quest for An Imperial Legacy," is coming to a close at the end of the summer. On view since June 2013, the exhibition has captivated visitors with the story of one of America’s most famous and beautiful women of the 19th century. Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte was born in Baltimore in 1785 and her father was merchant William Patterson. During her lifetime she traveled eight times between Baltimore and France and had a brief, tumultuous marriage to Jerome Bonaparte, the brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. Together, the couple had a son and Elizabeth never stopped working to secure an imperial title for him. She died in Baltimore in 1879 having amassed a fortune by investing in real estate. The exhibition displays about 130 artifacts, including silver, porcelain, paintings, textiles, jewelry, manuscripts, and furniture associated with Elizabeth and her descendants.
