#OnThisDay in 1755 a meeting between General Edward Braddock, Colonel George Washington, and Ben Franklin took place in Frederick, Maryland. We invite you to read about Gen. Braddock’s activities in Maryland before his fatal campaign and an old legend of missing gold. The Legend of Braddock’s Gold was used by journalists for years to lure readers to their work. Gordon Kershaw uses the legend as an interesting teaser to introduce research completed in England regarding Braddock’s campaign in “The Legend of Braddock’s Gold Reconsidered,” “Maryland Historical Magazine” (issue 96.1, Spring 2001). Read it in our bio. Image: Gen. Braddock, engraved by William Sartain (1843–1924), New York, c.1899.
