In our latest Museum blog post, Director of Collections Harrison Van Waes tells the story of how – after 130 years apart and many successive generations of family ownership – three silver tureens reunited and found a home at the Maryland Center for History and Culture. The tureens were given to the Hon. George Washington Dobbin (1809-1891), Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City (1867-1882), upon his retirement in 1882. When he died, the tureens were split among three of his children. The first was donated to MCHC in 1950. The second and third were discovered and donated to MCHC in 2020 and 2021.
