Repost from the_corsetedbeauty. We love when our fashion archive shows up in their feed! This stunning coral velvet evening dress was likely bought by Alice Lee Whitridge upon her marriage to Robert Hooper Stevenson, Jr. in 1911. This Jeanne Paquin dress features some of the designer’s signature elements, including bright colors, playful textures, and an ode to Neoclassicism. Paquin modified contemporary fashion through her own innovations to accommodate active, modern women like herself. For example, the narrow hobble skirt of this dress features a hidden pleat so the wearer could wear the trendy style but walk with more ease. Velvet evening dress, designed by Jeanne Paquin (1869-1936), worn by Mrs. Alice lee Thomas Stevenson (1884-1972), winter 1911.
