Many people have engaged in creative activities or hobbies to benefit their overall mental well-being. Dr. William Rush Dunton Jr., the focus of our “Wild and Untamed: Dunton's Discovery of the Baltimore Album Quilts” exhibition, is often referred to as the “father of occupational therapy” because he advocated for the therapeutic value of creative, collaborative, and purposeful activities like quilting for individuals suffering from mental illness.
