#DidYouKnow that 8,718 free and formerly enslaved men fought in six Maryland United States Colored Troop Regiments (USCT) during the Civil War? Four of these men won the Medal of Honor, America’s highest award for military service. The Maryland Center for History and Culture has incredible collections related to these USCT troops. Teachers participating in our Summer Institute will have the opportunity to get hands on with original documents, gaining behind the scenes access to materials in the H. Furlong Baldwin Library. If you are a 4th to 12th grade educator, we invite you to apply. The institute will be live and synchronous throughout the week of July 26-30, with most activities taking place in-person. Register by May 31. Click on the "Summer Teacher Institute Application" tab in our bio link to apply today.
