STORY TIME Spent the afternoon at the Louck’s Games as they were honoring past winners (Mile-2008) and I had the chance to see the man who convinced me to start running, Derrick Adkins. After he won the Olympic gold for the 400H in 1996, he returned back to his hometown of Malverne on Long Island to speak to some impressionable kindergartners. When I got home from school still buzzing with excitement from his speech, my non-runner parents took the hint and signed me up for a local team. He was at the armorynyc the day I qualified for the Millrose Games during my senior year of and I let him know how much that day changed my life.
