Mia Priore, a 2022 White Plains High grad, who recently completed her sophomore year at Poughkeepsie’s Marist College, is one of 18 athletes preparing to compete in the June 29 20-kilometer women's racewalk at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Springfield, Oregon.
It’s an unlikely story, made possible through Marist’s unique support of a sport that has been in the Olympics since 1904 but which the NCAA does not recognize. Marist, a Division I school, can’t offer racewalking scholarships since the sport isn’t NCAA-sanctioned.
