Pride Month begins today, which is celebrated annually in June to celebrate LGBTQ+ people and to honor the Stonewall riots. Although LGBTQ+ people are protected in some states and municipalities, federal Fair Housing Laws do not include sexual orientation or gender identity as protected classes. This allows legal discrimination in over two dozen states, which can cause barriers to homeownership, obtaining a loan, renting, and more. The LGBTQ+ homeownership rate is 49%, far below the homeownership rate of 64% for the general population.
