Meet Aaralyn Burt ’27, a rising sophomore from Kingsville, Texas. Aaralyn, a political science and international studies double major, has always been interested in criminal justice. When they heard about Trinity’s International Criminal Justice Program summer trip in Bosnia, Aaralyn knew they had to participate. The main focus of the program was to highlight and understand the legacy of the Bosnian genocide. “We saw many aspects of the war, such as mass graves and camps, and there was always a survivor or veteran available for us to ask questions,” Aaralyn says. “We always had daily debriefs and discussions on what we learned and observed.” Being abroad in Bosnia immersed Aaralyn in a new environment and culture. “I’ve gained several communication skills and learned to adapt due to the language barrier,” Aaralyn says. “Coming from a small agricultural town, I wasn’t familiar with public transportation, so being in Bosnia exposed me to this.
