In 2018, #BritneySpears resisted her court-ordered conservatorship, but went through mental health evaluations and a few months in rehab— which is where she learned about the #FreeBritney movement. ⁠ ⁠ Spears explained in her upcoming memoir #TheWomaninMe, “My father said that if I didn’t go, then I’d have to go to court, and I’d be embarrassed." While in the facility, a nurse showed her videos of fans who organized to support her and were questioning the need for her conservatorship.
