Northwestern loses to Akron 34-39. Another rough loss. I would probably say this was our worst loss since the ISU upset back in 2016. We started the game off pretty solid and went into halftime leading 21-3. However the second half we fell apart, where Akron outscored us 36-13. Thorson threw TWO interceptions that were returned for touchdowns which should NOT happen to a senior QB and we continued to sub him in with TJ Green. We also had a high snap that went into the end zone and was recovered by the Zips for a TD. Obviously, our offense needs to sharpen up. I thought our defensive line played ok but I saw a few moments when our guys missed the ball carrier. The secondary, however, was terrible. We gave up countless big pass plays and a two touchdowns on blown coverages. Overall, our gameplay just seemed sloppy and lazy. Some positives to look at this game were Clay Thoson’s 3 passing TDs, Larkin’s 2 rushing TDs, and Cameron Green’s 2 TDs and 11 receptions. Despite that, we will need ...
