Megan Clark, pole vaulter, at the New York State indoor Track and Field Championship during her junior year of high school
βThe NY state indoor meet my junior year; I was scared to death. The indoor state meet was at Cornell and Iβd just watched one of my training buddies fall in the box and fracture her fibula. It was the longest meet of my life. We were about 5 hours in at this point, and I just had to focus on hitting my cues and trust that I was prepared. It was the first meet that I figured out how to focus on cues, tune out my fears, and compete despite all of the distractions and external stimuli. And I won my first state title.β
