According to a recent assessment, suicide is the eighth leading cause of death in Maricopa County, surpassing motor vehicle crashes as the leading cause of violent death in Arizona. Christina, a 15-year ED RN at Dignity Health Chandler Regional Medical Center, and a psychiatric nurse practitioner, recognised the mental health struggles of local teens. During her Ph.D. at ASU, she discovered the Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) program, which trains teens to identify and respond to mental health and substance use challenges. In 2022, she piloted this program with nine 11th graders at Chandler Unified School District, receiving enthusiastic feedback. The District now plans to expand the program to all 11th graders in the 2024-2025 school year. Christina continues to offer these classes alongside her nursing duties. Recently, a fellow employee honoured her as a Guardian Angel, celebrated with a billboard display. Kudos to Christina for her significant impact on teen mental health! ...
