Some rules for productivity...
-
• You can only do one thing at a time, multi tasking is for muppets.
• Work will expand to fill the time given for it (Parkinson’s Law), always create deadlines and hard stops in your day to work toward.
• A body at rest stays at rest; getting started by creating the document, opening the email window etc is much of the battle.
• Task switching loses you 15 minutes of your day.
• Work done = Time x Intensity. You can change your intensity more easily than you can alter the passage of time.
• Notifications are the kryptonite of focussed work, keep your phone away from your desk.
• Leaving tasks purposefully unfinished helps you restart them after a break (Open Loops; Zeigarnik Effect).
• Finishing tasks helps you to switch off and forget about them (Closed Loops; Zeigarnik Effect).
• Walk, drink water, look out of the window and get fresh air during your break. Change your state.
