I’ve been talking to a number of people recently about their goals for sobriety and how their social circle is a negative influence.

The way I see it, you should be taking immense pride in electing to go sober. Not only are you achieving what most people can’t, you’re doing it to make your life, and the lives of those around you better.

So don’t shy away when you are asked why you’re not drinking, explain that you’re going sober by choice and connect to your reasons. If you can’t be bothered giving them the full summary, the best short answer I’ve found is simply “I’m just challenging myself to see if I can do it”.
