🙋🏿‍♀️😂💯❤️ ・・・ As I raise my incredible daughter, I’m so aware that our relationship is the social laboratory for relationships in her life. I do my absolute best to not take her willful moments personally, and to in fact, take pride in them. I want to provide her with the experience that her authenticity and attachment to me can co-exist, and sometimes, that authenticity is that she’s mad at me, not ready to repair, or needs to assert herself by disagreeing with me. As I was just telling a client, we don’t want to raise children who blindly follow authority (even, cough cough, ours 🙃), we need to raise children who know their own truth in the moment, feel comfortable speaking it and collaborating with others to meet ideally somewhere in the middle. And! When I get activated by her, I can recognize that I’ve got some old stories stuck in my system that I’m gradually rewriting about what girls and women should and should not do, be and say. What a gift, to have these lessons...
