Historians don't know the exact date of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth, but they do know he was baptized on Dec. 17, 1770. To honor the 250th anniversary of his (presumed) birth, Olga Kleiankina, the music department's director of piano studies, and Dovid Friedlander, associate concertmaster for the NC Symphony, will perform two of Beethoven's violin sonatas in a recital on Sunday, Feb. 16. We hope you'll join us to experience works from Beethoven's early, middle and late periods, from a compositional career that included nine symphonies, five piano concertos, one violin concerto, thirty-two piano sonatas, sixteen string quartets, two masses, the opera Fidelio, and a body of other highly regarded works, like Für Elise, which were only discovered after his death.
